WCD15 Candle Lighting Ceremony

On 4^th February, 2015 (Wednesday), a Candle Lighting Ceremony was organized by Nepal Cancer Relief Society on the occasion of World Cancer Day in Bhaktapur Durbar Square, in honor of all cancer fighters and survivors. The theme for this year was "Not Beyond Us", which is to say that Cancer Control is not beyond our ability, if we bring positive changes to our lifestyle.

The program started with a musical program by a local group and the arrival of the Chief Guest Mr. Anil Kumar Thakur (Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur). Then for the dais call, the Chief Guest Mr. Anil Kumar Thakur, Mr. Lokendra Kumar Shrestha (President of NCRS), Mr. Diwakar Rajkarnikar (Immediate Past President of NCRS), Mr. Bikash Shrestha (Deputy Inspector General), Mr. Frank Paulin (WHO-Country Office for Nepal) and Mr. Ram Mani Bhattarai (Chief of Bhaktapur Municipality) were called. Mr. Mahesh Shreshta (Vice-President of NCRS) welcomed all the guests to the event which was followed by a Cancer Awareness Presentation by Dr. Prakash Raj Neupane (Medical Director of NCRS Bhaktapur Hospital). Then came remarks from the guests at dais.

Also, there was a short certificate distribution event for all the cyclists of last Saturday's Cycle Rally event, which were handed over to Mr. Saloman Shrestha, representing Epic Rides Nepal (the Associate Partner for the Cycle Rally). Finally, the Candle Lighting Ceremony began with the "Vote of Thanks" from NCRS' President.

There were more than 100 participants in this function, from various governmental and non-governmental organizations, local schools, and the locals from the Bhaktapur area.
