Cervical Cancer Awareness and Screening @ Sankhamul
Dec 27 2014n 5th Poush, 2071 B.S., a Cancer Awareness Program was held organized in collaboration, by Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS) - Kathmandu Branch Office, NCRS Central Office, NCRS Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital (BCH), Rotary Club of Bagmati, Sankhabinayak Mahila Jagaran Samuha and Sankhbinayak Bachat tatha Rin Sahakari Sanstha Ltd in the premises of Gyan Niketan Higher Secondary School.
The program commenced with the dais-call, which consisted of Dr. Pradeep Vaidya, Executive Board Member of Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS) – Central Office; Mr. Vimal Kumar Hoda, President of Rotary Club of Bagmati and General Secretary of NCRS – Central Office; Ms. Parbati Aryal, President of Sankhabinayak Mahila Jagaran Samuha; Mr. Ajay Singh Suwal, President of NCRS – Kathmandu, Ms. Vijaya Laxmi Bajracharya, Treasurer of NCRS – Kathmandu, and a news reporter from Samacharpatra.
The Master of Ceremonies for the program was Dr. Bimala Shakya of NCRS-Kathmandu. Then after, Mr. Hoda talked about the program highlights as well as gave short remarks on cancer control activities by NCRS and Rotary Club of Bagmati. After this short pre-awareness program, Dr. Vaidya presented on General Cancer, Cervical Cancer, Breast Cancer and their screening procedures.
On 12th Poush, 2071 B.S., exactly a week after the awareness, Cervical Cancer Screening Program was held at 8:00 AM at the same venue. For the screening, Pap Smear tests were done by the team of 10 hospital staff led by Dr. Eliza Shrestha and Dr. Prabhu Shah, with overall supervision of Dr. Prakash Raj Neupane, Medical Director of NCRS BCH and Dr. Aarati Shah, Former Medical Director of NCRS BCH.
