Like in previous years, this year as well, Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS) grandly celebrated World Cancer Day, 4th February with various programs. Observed worldwide under the theme "United by Unique," NCRS launched a special podcast series titled "Let’s Talk Cancer", organized an awareness rally and a free bus service has been launched for cancer patients on this occasion.
NCRS podcast series- Let’s Talk Cancer is dedicated to awareness about cancer, patient support, and advocacy. This podcast aims to provide valuable insights from oncologists, cancer survivors, researchers, and healthcare professionals, offering listeners a deeper understanding of cancer prevention early detection, treatment options, and coping strategies. The guest of the first episode of the podcast was Mahesh Shrestha, President of the Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS). The discussion in the podcast focused on various topics, including the status of cancer in Nepal, government policies and taxation related to tobacco as a contributing factor to cancer, NCRS's role in this regard, its activities, and future plans.
On the occasion of World Cancer Day, Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS) has organized an awareness rally. Inaugurating the awareness rally, the Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports, Tej Lal Chaudhary, stated that he would take initiatives at the government level to increase taxes on tobacco products. The rally saw the participation of more than 300 individuals, including central officials of the organization, branch representatives, MBBS students from Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, representatives from various organizations, and students from different schools. During the rally, the participants carried placards with cancer-related awareness slogans written on them. The rally commenced from Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, passing through Sahid Gate, Juddha Statue, Asan, Jamal, Tri-Chandra College, and the Old Bus Park and concluding back at Bhrikutimandap.
Additionally, on this occasion the free bus service launched by NCRS for cancer patients was inaugurated by the Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports, Tejulal Chaudahry. The free bus shuttle to ensure transportation for cancer patients who came from different places for a better treatment to Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital.
On the occasion of World Cancer Day, district branches of Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS) have organized various awareness programs like Orator Competition, Awareness rally, Workshop, walkathon, Presentation and in the evening, candles were lit in remembrance of those who had passed away due to cancer.
On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the Government of Nepal has launched the HPV vaccination campaign against cervical cancer in 2081. Volunteers from 47 district branches of the NCRS are currently involved in this initiative.
