On 7th October, 2014, Dr. Anjani Kumar Sharma breathed his last breath leaving his family, relatives and friends in a great sorrow. Survived by his daughter and two sons, he had been the first-ever surgeon in Nepal, hence termed by many as the Father of Surgery in Nepal, as well as a pioneer in the field of Oncology in the country. He had been active against the spread of cancer in Nepal since the establishment of Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS). He had even served as the President at NCRS from 2048 to 2053 B.S. and had been the Consultant for the Society until now. He had been the founder of Nepal Cancer Relief Society Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, where he had been Consultant Surgeon until recently. What distinguished him from the others was his bright personality, hard-working nature and his big dreams, one of which was to establish a Cancer Hospital in each of the Development Regions; so far, this has come true for Central and Eastern regions as NCRS Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital and NCRS Lahan Cancer Care Center. Apart from this, he had been an active social worker and a kind human being. With this tragic incident, the country and its countrymen have lost a good citizen and exceptional health personnel.
