Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS) is a non-government, non-profit making, social and national organization that was established in 1982 with the aim of fighting against the spreading of cancer in Nepal. The organization since last 38 years has been working to prevent, control and care cancer in Nepal. It has expanded its work in 44 districts of Nepal and consists of more than 10,000 volunteers working nationwide for cancer control. NCRS works in both preventive as well as curative aspects to tackle with cancer. Under preventive programs it carries out cancer awareness programs, tobacco control programs, cancer screening camps within the valley and to the remote outskirts of Nepal.
Under the preventive aspect every year NCRS conducts various interschool poetry competition, interschool painting competition and interschool Oratory Competition among the different schools within Nepal on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day on the theme provided by WHO . This year, the theme of World No Tobacco Day provided by WHO was "Protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use".
While considering the health tips provided by WHO in preventing the spread of COVID-19, NCRS conducted a Virtual Interschool Oratory Competition on 30th May 2020 followed by a Special World No Tobacco Day Celebration on 31st May 2020. This program was success as students from 4 out of 7 provinces of Nepal were also able to take part in this competition. There were 16 students taking part in this competition and each students were from different school.
